We live in a fast pace world where it’s easy to overlook life’s “mini moments”. It’s easy to give up on opportunities where we can seriously experience the Lord’s presence at work. How many times have we been consumed with discovering the bigger picture or more focused on our personal lives that we miss out on intentionally spending time with a friend, resting while sitting in awe of creation, or meeting someone new and listening to their story?
A few weekends ago two of my friends and I woke up at 3:00 a.m. and drove about four hours to Max Patch. If you are unfamiliar, Max Patch is a large balled mountain in North Carolina where many people go camping and watch the sunrise/sunset. This was one of the first few weekends of the semester where we were all free and didn’t have a lot of homework, volleyball practice, or other plans. So we decided, why not take a spontaneous weekend road trip? We finally made it to the mountain after only a few wrong turns on the highway (yikes…my fault). As we were hiking to the top of the mountain, on a day that finally was chilly enough to feel like autumn, we saw a small sliver of light peak over the mountains in the horizon. While my friends and I sat all wrapped up in our blankets astounded by the sunrise I wanted to stop time in that moment. I felt at peace and at rest. All distractions and worries in life were stripped away. I was captivated by the beauty of God’s creation in that simple moment on the mountaintop.
Currently in the midst of a global pandemic it’s easy to focus on the big life changing moments, decisions, and opportunities that our thrown our way. We never know what crisis might happen next so many of us stress to “get our lives together” as soon as possible. Let me just tell you, it’s okay to not have it all together. We are not called to live a perfect lives with no mistakes, failures, or confusions. The crazy thing is that even when we might feel like we have hit rock bottom and when nothing seems to be working in our favor, God is still with us. When we learn to accept our imperfections we create a space where God can fill our lives with His perfect love so that we can be fully known and understood in His presence. God is at work in our lives no matter how big or small the situation may seem to us. God rejoices with us when we have those big life changing moments and accomplishments. However, He also rejoices during that random afternoon when we draw near to Him in the midst of our day-to-day routine or that quite morning sitting with friends watching the sunrise. Let’s not skip over any moment where we can experience God’s presence. Let’s be intentional. Continually seek to find joy even when it may seem far fetched. Let’s not allow the the mini moments to just pass us by because they can truly be life-changing!

Prayer
Lord be my focus. Be the first thing that comes to my mind when I start the day. I am choosing to surrender it all to you, every single aspect of my life. Lord, transform me to look more like you. Allow me to soak up all the mini moments in life and discover your glory even when I may feel distant from you or unworthy of your presence. Your love surpasses all earthy constraints and definitions. Help me practically feel your love in the mundane. I pray that you give me the strength to pour my time, effort, and energy into my relationship with you. Help me rest in your grace. Every day responsibilities can become overwhelming and various apprehensions can distract me from remembering that you are walking alongside me at all times. Thank you for still loving me even through my brokenness and failure. I pray that you open my eyes to the beauty of your presence not only in big miraculous events, but also in the simplicity of the everyday mini moments.
